More talks held in attempt to settle estate wage issue

(Colombo Gazette) More discussions were held today in an attempt to settle the estate wage issue.The discussion took place between the Minister of Plantation Industries Navin Dissanayake and a group of Ministers representing the plantation communities. Ganesan, Digambaram and Radhakrishnan are demanding Rs. 1000 as the daily basic wage for plantation workers. Ministers Mano Ganesan, Palani Digambaram and Velusami Radhakrishnan were among those who attended the meeting. Plantation trade unions recently signed a collective agreement with plantation companies agreeing to Rs. 700 as the daily wage.In addition, the price share supplement which is given to employees from the earnings of the company by selling tea, was also agreed to be increased from Rs 30 to Rs 50.
