first_imgDennis TownsendDennis Lloyd Townsend, longtime Wellington resident, went to be with the Lord after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer on Sunday, March 9, 2014 from his home in rural Oxford at the age of 55.Dennis was born the son of Harold and Wauneta (Ashcraft) Townsend on Monday, October 20, 1958 in Wellington.On February 11, 1983, Dennis and Linda S. Carty were united in marriage in Caney. Together they celebrated 31 years of marriage.Dennis owned and operated his own commercial painting and decorating business for over 26 years.Survivors include his wife, Linda Townsend of rural Oxford, mother, Wauneta Townsend of Wellington, son, Mark McClure of Wellington, son, Fred Taylor of Wichita, daughter, Heather Campbell and her husband Matt of Wichita, granddaughter, Alexis McClure of Winfield, sister, Nancy Driver and her husband Dean Prindle of Wellington, sister, Karen Crowe and her husband Richard of Wellington, brother, Hal Townsend and his wife Bena of Wellington, sister, Janet Allen and her husband Doug of Milan, brother, Richard Townsend and his wife Cassie of Wellington, brother, Steve Townsend of Wellington, sister, Beverly Hoffine of Caney, brother, Gary Gorby and his wife Julie of Caney, sister, Vanessa Read and her husband Sig of Ipswich, Suffolk England, brother, Rick Storey and his wife Valerie of Ipswich, Suffolk England; grandchildren, Braden, Logan, Brynn, Nicholas, Shane, Lillian and Mason along with a great-grandson, Jayden and a large extended family of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins..He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Townsend, sister, Carol Townsend, grandmothers: Sylvia Townsend and Myrtle Ashcraft along with his parents-in-law, Robert and Dorothy Carty.Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1 to 8 p.m., Thursday, March 13, 2014 with family present from 6 to 8 p.m.Funeral services for Dennis will be at 2 p.m., Friday, March 14, 2014 in the First Christian Church, Wellington.Interment will follow at the Osborne Cemetery in Mayfield.Memorials have been established in his loving memory with Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 26 Broadway, 14th Floor, New York, NY 10004 or Hope Children’s Home, 11415 Hope International, Tampa, FL 33625.
