Tribal Group receives bid approaches

first_img TRIBAL Group, which provides government outsourcing services and coordinates school inspections, saw its shares leap yesterday after confirming it had been the subject of a slew of takeover approaches.The interest is thought to have come primarily from private equity companies, with Asia-focused New Silk Route (NSR) or larger rival Capita touted as potential buyers. Analysts said Tribal’s budding Asian education software business would strike a chord with NSR’s strategic focus on investing in Eastern markets.Tribal’s government business also looks attractive to bidders as the Aim-listed company positions itself as a leading consultant to the public sector, to help steer it through the slimming-down process prompted by the coalition’s austerity drive.“The company is very well-positioned to support public sector organisations as they undertake change and to participate in an expected acceleration of outsourcing opportunities that will contribute to the improvement in public sector efficiencies,” Tribal said in an update yesterday.Reports put the potential price tag for Tribal at around 100-125p a share, though sources close to the firm said a bid at that level would be viewed as relatively low-ball. Taking house broker Investec’s year-end EPS forecast of 11.6p as a basis, a bid at 125p per share would put the company’s valuation at under 11 times earnings – a marked discount to larger rivals such as Capita, which trades at over 17 times earnings.“Tribal confirms that it has received preliminary expressions of interest which may or may not lead to an offer being made,” the firm said yesterday. The department of communities and local government will see its day-to-day spending cut by 33 per cent in real terms over the next four years, and capital spending slashed by 74 per cent to from £6.8bn to £2bn. Meanwhile, the overall cash handed down from central to local government will fall by 26 per cent in real terms, from £29.7bn to £24.2bn. KPMG’s head of local and regional government, Iain Hasdell, said: “As local government gets smaller and poorer in cash terms, those organisations in its supply chain will experience many difficulties finding alternative contracts. Several financial collapses of companies and organisations within this supply chain will result over the near term.”Outsourcing group Connaught, which had contracts for services from social housing maintenance to grass cutting, has already folded. Chancellor George Osborne said yesterday that fire, police and schools services would be ring-fenced from local government cuts.“Town halls will now face extremely tough choices about which services they can keep on running,” said Baroness Margaret Eaton, chairman of the Local Government Association. A Virgin spokesman said the market was not big enough to share with Eurostar, which carried 9.2m passengers in 2009.The spokesman said Virgin, which carries about 28m passengers a year on its West Coast route from London to Manchester and Glasgow, wanted to focus on renewing that franchise.He said Virgin would also have to buy new high-speed trains that comply with Channel Tunnel safety rules, recruit enough multi-lingual staff and provide immigration facilities.“We never say never, but we have looked at it in the past and it’s not a priority for us,” the spokesman said.Eurostar has responded to DB’s plans by unveiling its own expansion, including a £700m scheme to buy 10 new trains from German manufacturer Siemens and to refurbish its existing rolling stock, which was built by the French group Alstom.Alstom yesterday launched High Court legal action against Eurostar, claiming the Siemens trains fail to meet Channel Tunnel safety regulations.Eurostar rejected the claims, saying the competition tender for the trains met European rules and that it chose Siemens because it made the best offer. iPhone users to see adverts inside apps

first_img iPhone users in the UK will soon find adverts inside apps they download as Apple rolls out its iAds platform outside the US.The platform allows application developers – and Apple itself – to make money from advertising contained within apps.It is set to launch in the UK and France in December after attracting a host of big money advertisers in the US.European launch partners will include L’Oréal, Renault, Louis Vuitton and Absolute Radio.Apple describes the technology as a “powerful new way for advertisers to reach millions of iPhone and iPod touch users.”The launch of iAds heralded the start of a major advertising war between Apple and Google. At the launch of the iPhone 4, Apple chief executive Steve Jobs claimed iAds would help Apple to control 48 per cent of the mobile advertising market by the end of 2010 – a clear swipe at Google’s dominance.The emergence of iAds has provided Apple with a lucrative new revenue stream. An estimated 5bn apps have now been downloaded through the App Store, with Apple pocketing a third of the cover price. Now it will also be able to cream off a premium from ads.iAds, which is built into iOS 4, lets users stay within their current app while engaging with an the advertisement.Apple says the platform aims to “combine the narrative quality of TV ads with the interactivity of digital for something entirely new”.Marc Menesguen, L’Oréal’s Head of marketing said: “We’re thrilled by the quality, the interactivity and the depth of iAd’s user experience, giving us an unparalleled opportunity to reach and serve the most engaged and discerning customers at the digital forefront of beauty.” whatsapp iPhone users to see adverts inside apps KCS-content whatsapp Sharecenter_img Thursday 18 November 2010 7:37 pm Ad Unmute by Taboolaby TaboolaSponsored LinksSponsored LinksPromoted LinksPromoted LinksYou May LikeMisterStoryWoman Files For Divorce After Seeing This Photo – Can You See Why?MisterStoryUndoTotal PastThe Ingenious Reason There Are No Mosquitoes At Disney WorldTotal PastUndoMoneyPailShe Was Famous, Now She Works In {State}MoneyPailUndoSerendipity TimesInside Coco Chanel’s Eerily Abandoned Mansion Frozen In TimeSerendipity TimesUndoZen HeraldNASA’s Voyager 2 Has Entered Deep Space – And It Brought Scientists To Their KneesZen HeraldUndoWanderoamIdentical Twins Marry Identical Twins – But Then The Doctor Says, “STOP”WanderoamUndoMagellan TimesThis Is Why The Roy Rogers Museum Has Been Closed For GoodMagellan TimesUndoElite HeraldExperts Discover Girl Born From Two Different SpeciesElite HeraldUndomoneycougar.comThis Proves The Osmonds Weren’t So Innocentmoneycougar.comUndo Show Comments ▼ Read This NextRicky Schroder Calls Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl ‘Ignorant Punk’ forThe WrapCNN’s Brian Stelter Draws Criticism for Asking Jen Psaki: ‘What Does theThe WrapDid Donald Trump Wear His Pants Backwards? The stake size and deal structure have been under discussion for more than a month, sources told City A.M. FTSE sticks above 6,000 after volatile day

first_img FTSE sticks above 6,000 after volatile day whatsapp whatsapp Wednesday 2 February 2011 4:18 pm Tags: NULL Share The FTSE’s mainstay miners and banks pushed the benchmark index to close just above 6,000 points – but profit taking and uncertainty over violent clashes in Egypt caused a turbulent day’s trading.The FTSE 100 closed up 42.25 points, or 0.7 per cent, at 6000.07, extending Tuesday’s 1.6 per cent rise.The index has recovered from a sharp dip at the beginning of the week as the focus has shifted from the political troubles in the Middle East to the health of the global economic recovery.Platinum miner Lonmin led the miners on the risers board, to close up 4.06 per cent at 768p, followed by Eurasian Natural Resources (up 3.76 per cent to 1,076p);
Rio Tinto (also up 3.76 per cent, to finish at 4,507.5p); BHP Billiton (up 3.44 per cent to close at 2,513.5p); Anglo American (up 3.36 per cent to 3,273.5p); Fresnillo (up 3.25 per cent to 1,429p); and Antofagasta (up 2.51 per cent to 1,509p).“Initial gains looked in danger of evaporating as violent clashes erupted in the Egyptian capital of Cairo,” said IG Index sales trader Will Hedden. “However, rising commodity prices have helped to keep the index in positive territory, with miners unsurprisingly benefiting the most.”Other winners were Imperial Tobacco, which added 5.9 per cent during the course of the day after surprising investors with a return to volume growth and sales up 1.2 per cent, in the last quarter of 2010.The banking sector also gained ground after encouraging progress in the Eurozone and significantly improved fourth-quarter results from Spanish bank BBVA.“This has helped buoy the European banking sector with HSBC and Standard Chartered the major gainers. Barclays, who have some exposure to Spain and Portugal is also higher,” said Michael Hewson, market analyst at CMC Markets. Defensive stocks such as International Power, down 3.43 per cent to 405p and National Grid, down 2.05 per cent to 548.5p, fell most. National Grid lost ground after as Investec kept its “sell” rating on the utility, saying Ofgem’s seminar yesterday highlighted the regulatory uncertainty facing the industry.Drugmaker AstraZeneca fell 2.77 per cent to 2,947.5p, after going ex-dividend.“Pharmaceuticals have proved to be a drag, with AstraZeneca near the bottom of the index, while Johnson Matthey has also slipped back despite reporting better-than-expected third-quarter profits,” said Hewson.And engineer GKN dropped 4.91 per cent to close at 193.8p after Credit Suisse suggested its profit margin was at risk from rising commodity prices.US stocks weakened after yesterday’s rally in which indices closed at two-and-a-half-year highs. The Dow Jones industrial average gained 7.76 points, or 0.06 per cent, to 12,047.92. The S&P 500 dropped 2.33 points, or 0.18 per cent, to 1,305.26; and the Nasdaq Composite Index rose 2.03 points, or 0.07 per cent, to 2,753.22. by Taboolaby TaboolaSponsored LinksSponsored LinksPromoted LinksPromoted LinksYou May LikeMoneyPailShe Was A Star, Now She Works In ScottsdaleMoneyPailTotal PastThe Ingenious Reason There Are No Mosquitoes At Disney WorldTotal PastSerendipity TimesInside Coco Chanel’s Eerily Abandoned Mansion Frozen In TimeSerendipity TimesBrake For ItThe Most Worthless Cars Ever MadeBrake For ItLuxury SUVs | Search AdsThese Cars Are So Loaded It’s Hard to Believe They’re So CheapLuxury SUVs | Search AdsBetterBe20 Stunning Female AthletesBetterBeautooverload.comDeclassified Vietnam War Photos The Public Wasn’t Meant To Seeautooverload.comElite HeraldExperts Discover Girl Born From Two Different SpeciesElite HeraldBlood Pressure Solution4 Worst Blood Pressure MedsBlood Pressure Solution alison.lock Show Comments ▼last_img read more

Even if the site comes good on projections that ad income will hit $250m in 2012, the multiple is still 40 times revenue – a fancy amount for a business that is yet to turn a profit.A potential buyer will need more than that if it’s going to put this much cash on the table. And Twitter can learn from its suitors how best to approach the next phase of its growth. Facebook’s advertising revenue hit $1.86bn last year, and the site accounted for five per cent of all online advertising in 2010. With other income streams bringing the total to around $2bn, a $50bn valuation is a little less ridiculous (albeit still extreme) when compared to the Twitter figures. Twitter is nearly ten years younger than Google, two years behind Facebook, and still has a lot to prove. It is used by just 12 per cent of internet users, compared to Facebook’s 62 per cent. If it were to pursue a listing, Google’s example would be one to avoid – during its Dutch Auction initial public offering, a series of filing errors and press reports saw the price of its stock drop from around $115 per share to officially start at $85 per share. by Taboolaby TaboolaSponsored LinksSponsored LinksPromoted LinksPromoted LinksYou May LikeMisterStoryWoman Files For Divorce After Seeing This Photo – Can You See Why?MisterStoryTotal PastThe Ingenious Reason There Are No Mosquitoes At Disney WorldTotal PastSerendipity TimesInside Coco Chanel’s Eerily Abandoned Mansion Frozen In TimeSerendipity TimesBrake For ItThe Most Worthless Cars Ever MadeBrake For ItZen HeraldNASA’s Voyager 2 Has Entered Deep Space – And It Brought Scientists To Their KneesZen HeraldBetterBe20 Stunning Female AthletesBetterBeAlphaCute30 Rules That All “Hells Angels” Have To FollowAlphaCuteDefinitionDesi Arnaz Kept This Hidden Throughout The Filming of ‘I Love Lucy’DefinitionTaonga: The Island FarmThe Most Relaxing Farm Game of 2021. While Persimmon sold 4.5 per cent more homes last year, the firm said completions tailed off towards the end of 2010 amid a tough mortgage market and economic fears. “This scale of [mortgage] activity remains significantly below normal levels and reflects the much reduced risk appetite of mortgage lenders,” the firm said in a statement. The Bank of England yesterday echoed this sentiment, showing that mortgage approvals in January were around half the long-term average. Persimmon’s sales revenue last year rose 10.5 per cent to £1.57bn, as sale prices rose 5.7 per cent to £167,249. “We have always been a margin-focused business,” chief financial officer Mike Killoran told City A.M.. “We are keen to grow our margins and I think volumes for 2011 are probably going to be similar to where we left it in 2010.”Persimmon said 28 per cent of its sales volumes in 2010 were supported by shared equity schemes such as the government’s HomeBuy Direct programme that ended last summer, allowing first-time buyers easier access to the housing ladder. “We will continue to provide support for a little while yet, although what we are seeing in the market currently is that people are keen to take advantage of part-exchange offers,” said Killoran.
