Ohio State womens ice hockey splits series at No 6 North Dakota

Credit: Lantern File PhotoThe Ohio State women’s ice hockey team (5-7-0) recorded its first series split of the season in Grand Forks, North Dakota, where it lost 4-1 on Sunday after winning 3-2 the day before.On Saturday, the Buckeyes were outshot 20-4 in the first period, which ended with them trailing North Dakota 1-0.Over the final two periods, redshirt freshman goaltender Alex LaMere stopped 19 shots, and the skaters in front of her were able to solve senior goaltender Shelby Amsley-Benzie three times for the win.Entering the third period tied 1-1, the Buckeyes were able to tie the game at two when senior Kendall Curtis scored at 13:08. Just 55 seconds later, freshman forward Maddy Field scored what turned out to be the game-winner off an assist from freshman defender Lauren Boyle for her fourth goal of the season. On Sunday, the Buckeyes were only able to muster 13 shots against North Dakota, which scored twice in the first period en route to the 4-1 win.Field scored the lone goal for the Buckeyes on Sunday, giving her five on the season. Stat sheetCurtis and Kepler both received primary assists on each other’s goals, giving them each two points on the weekend. They are first and second on the team in points, respectively.Field will return to Columbus with five goals, moving her into a tie with Kepler for second on the team in goals scored. With the assist on Friday, Boyle now has seven so far in 2015-16, moving her into a tie for 13th in that category among Western Collegiate Hockey Association skaters.OSU will return to Columbus for a week of practice before heading back on the road to St. Cloud, Minnesota, for a pair of 4:07 p.m. starts against St. Cloud State on Friday and Saturday. read more
